FoodieCurious Gorgonzola Turkey Burgers

Gorgonzola Turkey Burger Recipe Card FoodieCuriousI almost always have some ground turkey on hand… since we try to keep things somewhat healthy I tend to pick up a pound or 2 of ground turkey every week at the store, and I always have some kind of recipe to use it in.  This recipe also works to make Gorgonzola Chicken Burgers, especially since the cheese adds a bit of fat to the ground chicken and keeps it from becoming too dense as a burger.

Wanting something quick and casual, one day I looked in the fridge and decided that a gorgonzola turkey burger would be perfect.

Put about 1lb of ground turkey into a bowl with a handfull of gorgonzola cheese (maybe 1/4 cup).  Add about 1/4 cup of panko bread crumbs and a teaspoon or so of Worcestershire sauce.  Season with salt and pepper & mix.

Form the burgers with your hands.  It’s best if you indent the middle of the patty so that as it cooks and the middle plumps up, you end up with a flat patty.

I like to spice things up, so I sprinkled a bit of my Steak Rub over both sides.  You can season them as you like, or with just a bit of cayenne, salt, pepper and garlic powder if you don’t want to go to the  trouble of making the rub. I like to keep a tupperware of steak rub around all the time.

A great addition: Caramelized onions!  Just cut up an onion or two and saute lightly in a pan… then lower the heat for 20 min and they do their thing!  Be careful not to burn them… just add some water (or red wine!!) if they look like they’re drying out.

I usually just cook these up on the grill on a grill pan, then use my spicy garlic aioli on a wheat bun.  Great with a side of sweet potato fries or broiled asparagus!
